A short history
The Premier Lacrosse League launched in 2019 as a touring league — clubs do not have a single home arena for every weekend. It merged with Major League Lacrosse in 2020. The championship is the PLL Championship.
There are eight clubs, split into Eastern and Western groups for the 2026 standings. The 2026 champion is the Philadelphia Waterdogs, who beat the Denver Outlaws in the U.S. Bank Championship on September 20.

2026 schedule
The regular season was a touring slate from May through mid-August, with weekend doubleheaders in cities across the United States. Quarterfinals were August 29–30 in Minneapolis. Semifinals were September 7 in Salt Lake City. The championship was September 20 in New Jersey.
How the league works
Ten a side. Four quarters. A touring calendar instead of a week-in, week-out home barn.
East and West
In 2026 the eight clubs were split into Eastern and Western standings. That split set the playoff bracket. The regular season is still one touring league.
Homecoming weekends
Each club hosts a weekend in its market. The rest of the season is a road show — several clubs play at the same venue on the same weekend.
Scoring
A goal is one point. A shot from beyond the two-point arc counts as two. Faceoffs, clears, and the shot clock decide most possessions.
Championship Series
A separate winter event in the Olympic sixes format. It is not the summer PLL Championship. In 2026 that series was February 27–March 8 outside Washington, D.C.
Eight clubs
Archers, Atlas, Cannons, Chaos, Outlaws, Redwoods, Waterdogs, and Whipsnakes. There is no relegation.
The season
Sixes series in late winter, a May–August touring regular season, then quarterfinals, semifinals, and a late-September championship.
How the playoffs work
Six of the eight clubs reached the 2026 postseason. Each conference sent its top three.
Quarterfinals
In each conference, the 2-seed hosted the 3-seed. The 1-seed had a bye to the semifinals. The 4-seed was out.
Semifinals
The 1-seed in each conference played the quarterfinal winner. In 2026 those games were September 7 in Salt Lake City.
Championship
The East and West winners meet in one game. In 2026 the Waterdogs beat the Outlaws on September 20 at Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey.
2026: Quarterfinals were August 29–30 in Minneapolis. The championship is a single game, not a series.
