Sonay Kartal beat Jelena Ostapenko 7-6(9), 7-6(5) in Wuhan’s other semifinal to reach her second tour-level final. The British player won both sets in tiebreaks and advanced to her first WTA 1000 championship match.

Sunday’s Shanghai final brings Davidovich Fokina and Jódar together for an all-Spanish title match. Play is scheduled for no earlier than 4:30 p.m. China Standard Time at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center. Both players are seeking their first ATP Masters 1000 title.

Chwalińska faces Kartal in the Wuhan final, scheduled for no earlier than 6:30 p.m. China Standard Time. The winner will claim her first WTA 1000 title. Chwalińska is seeking her first tour-level singles title, while Kartal is pursuing her second.
