Leylah Fernandez beat seventh-seeded Elise Mertens 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 in another first-round match at the WTA 500 tournament. The Canadian recovered from losing the opening set to secure her place in the second round.

Tuesday’s Almaty schedule opens with Terence Atmane against Rinky Hijikata at 11:30 a.m. Almaty time. Seventh seed Stefanos Tsitsipas faces Aleksandar Kovacevic next on Center Court, followed by Fabian Marozsan against Timofey Skatov. Fifth seed Karen Khachanov plays qualifier Rei Sakamoto no earlier than 7:30 p.m. Almaty time.

In Ningbo on October 20, sixth seed Diana Shnaider is scheduled to face qualifier Yulia Putintseva. Their first-round match is listed for 1 p.m. China Standard Time on Center Court. The winner will face Eala in the second round.
